MDH Names New Leader of its Health Equity Bureau

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) announced on March 1 the appointment of Robsan (Halkeno) Tura, PhD, as the new assistant commissioner for the department’s health equity bureau. Tura assumes the post held previously by Brooke Cunningham, MD, PhD, prior to her appointment in January as health commissioner.

Bill to Ban Flavored Tobacco Moves in Senate

The Senate Health and Human Services Committee heard SF 2123 (Champion, DFL – Minneapolis), a bill to ban the sale of flavored tobacco products and favored vaping products in Minnesota. The bill is supported by Minnesotans for a Smoke-Free Generation (MSFG), a coalition which the MMA is a member of.

A bill, SF 73 (Port, DFL – Burnsville), legalizing adult-use cannabis in Minnesota passed another committee and was referred to the Senate Human Services Committee following a multi-day hearing in the Health and Human Services Committee on February 21 and 28.
