People’s Center Health Services

People’s Center Clinics and Services is a safety net health center, offering the full continuum of care from primary care to behavioral and oral health services, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. 

A Federally Qualified Health Center, People’s Center serves a diverse population that includes a large percentage of patients who are immigrants from East Africa, as well as a number of local college students. More than half of our patients are better served in a language other than English.

People’s Center operates two clinic sites in Minneapolis, one in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, and one in Longfellow neighborhood.

PHYSICIAN SPECIALTIES NEEDED
Tuesday evenings or possibly Saturday mornings: Primary care (Family Medicine, Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine)
Any shift or by phone consult: Psychiatry
Any shift: Ortho/Sports Medicine, Renal, Cardiology

Additional volunteer support needed due to workforce shortages (MD/DOs welcomed, although not required for these typically-RN roles):

  • Phone triage
  • Phone follow up of chronic care management/health care home patients

PREFERRED TIME COMMITMENT
Volunteers would be asked to work a minimum of 4 hours per month. Locum tenens volunteer opportunities may be arranged on a case by case basis depending on the time commitment of the volunteer.

REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERS
All volunteering physicians must be credentialed to practice in Minnesota. Board certification negotiable, particularly for 2nd or 3rd year residents. Must be comfortable working with interpreters.

PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY INSURANCE FOR VOLUNTEERS
People’s Center will obtain liability insurance to cover all volunteering physicians. PCHS is a Federal Tort Claims Act Deemed facility and as such, the medical center cannot be the direct target of medical malpractice lawsuits, per U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

MEDICAL RECORDS
The People’s Center uses Epic electronic medical record software. Training and assistance can be provided.
