Registration Opens for 2026 Empowering Physicians Event in Minneapolis

Registration has opened for the Empowering Physicians event, featuring Regina Martinez-Lorenzo, MD, the first female cross-country skier to represent Mexico in the Olympics. 

The event will take place on Friday, September 25, from 3 to 8 pm, at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, 2400 3rd Ave. S. 

As the featured speaker, Regina Martinez-Lorenzo, MD, a 2021 graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School, and now an emergency medicine physician in Miami, will detail how she first learned to cross-country ski in Minneapolis’ Theodore Wirth Park and, five years later, competed in the 10K freestyle cross-country ski event at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, Italy, this past February.   

The event will also include the following: 

  • Networking reception; 

  • Physicians-in-training poster symposium; 

  • An educational session on how the One Big Beautiful Bill Act will affect the practice of medicine in Minnesota;   

  • An educational session that does a deep dive into the state of medical legal affairs in Minnesota;  

  • Highlight of MMA Award winners; and  

  • An introduction to the next MMA president, Dania Kamp, MD.

4 pm – General Session: Medical Liability in Minnesota — Emerging Trends, Risks, and Reforms  
5 pm – General Session: The Cost of Cuts — How H.R. 1 Could Reshape Minnesota’s Health System  
5:45 pm – Networking reception   
6:30 pm – Dinner, awards, and keynote speech from Regina Martinez-Lorenzo, MD
