Registration Now Open for December 8 Virtual Forum on Healthcare Discrimination in Minnesota
October 29, 2026
The Minnesota Health Equity Community of Practice (CoP) will host a virtual presentation on healthcare discrimination in Minnesota on December 8, from noon to 1 pm.
A recent Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) report, Patient Experiences with Healthcare Discrimination in Minnesota, found that nearly half (47.2%) of survey participants reported experiencing discrimination while seeking healthcare. Among those who experienced discrimination, approximately one-third reported avoiding healthcare, except in emergencies.
This session will explore key findings from the report, including the prevalence and types of discrimination experienced by Minnesotans, differences across population groups, and the impact on patient trust, access to care, and health outcomes. Participants will also hear about opportunities to address discrimination, and improve patient experiences within Minnesota's healthcare systems.
Presenters include Brooke Cunningham, MD, PhD, commissioner of MDH, and Stefan Gildemeister, state health economist and director of MDH's Health Economics Program.
This virtual meeting is open to all physicians, health professionals, and leaders from Minnesota health systems, medical groups, and medical associations with an interest in health equity.
