MMA Staff Help Medical Students Explore the Intersection of Medicine and Health Policy
June 18, 2026
Four members of the MMA staff met with students from the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine at the state Capitol in early June to discuss legislative matters.
Adrian Uphoff, MPH, MPP, Chad Fahning, MPP, Natalie Schmidt-Larkin, MPH, and Juliana Milhofer, JD, were invited by MMA member Shari Bornstein, MD, MPH, an internal medicine physician at the Mayo Clinic, who is hosting a new public health/health policy selective for medical students at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. It is a three-day long selective, and they capped it off with a visit to the Capitol.
MMA staff provided the students with an overview of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act; the legislative process; a recap of the 2026 legislative session and what the MMA was advocating for at the Capitol. In addition, the medical students learned about the role they can play as advocates – in medical school and beyond.
