More than 130 Allina Health hospital physicians represented by Doctors Council SEIU voted last week, by a 90% margin, to authorize a strike after nearly two years of bargaining.

University of Minnesota President Rebecca Cunningham, MD, will speak at the Empowering Physicians: A Night of Learning & Connection event on Friday, September 26, from 4 to 9 pm, at the historic Hewing Hotel in downtown Minneapolis.
In her role as president, Cunningham is focused on prioritizing an accessible, world-class education for students and advancing the University’s mission to enhance the health, safety, and prosperity of people across the state, nation, and world. She maintains a faculty appointment in the School of Public Health’s Division of Epidemiology & Community Health. Before joining the university, Cunningham served as the vice president for research and innovation at the University of Michigan.

Cunningham began her tenure as the University of Minnesota’s 18th president on July 1, 2024.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University and a medical doctorate from Jefferson Medical College. Cunningham completed her residency in emergency medicine at the University of Michigan.
The event will also include best-selling author Elisabeth Rosenthal, MD, a networking reception, a physicians-in-training poster symposium, recognition of MMA award winners, and an introduction to the next MMA president, Lisa Mattson, MD.
