On March 3, a Senate committee heard an MMA-supported bill that would require health plans to cover infertility diagnosis, treatment, and medically necessary fertility preservation services.
The MMA submitted a letter of support for SF 1961 (Maye Quade, DFL – Apple Valley), highlighting that clinical guidance recognizes fertility counseling and preservation planning as essential components of care for pediatric and adolescent patients facing serious illness. Coverage ensures access to fertility preservation, safeguards future family-building options, supports long-term quality of life, and promotes equity in healthcare.
The bill passed out of committee and was re-referred to the Committee on Health and Human Services. The House version has not been heard in committee yet.
