Registration Open for September 9 Virtual Forum on Burnout and Belonging in Equity Work

August 13, 2026

The Minnesota Health Equity Community of Practice (CoP) will host a virtual presentation about burnout and belonging in health equity work on Wednesday, September 9, from noon to 1 pm.

This session will explore the hidden emotional weight carried by people committed to serving others and creating meaningful change. Through personal stories, practical reflection, and metaphor, Arnoldo Curiel, Ed.D, MPA, will examine the pressures that leave people depleted and disconnected. Participants will consider how curiosity, boundaries, accountability, and dignity can help create workplaces and communities where people contribute fully without sacrificing their wellbeing or erasing who they are.

Curiel is a writer, community advocate, and director of inclusion, development, engagement and accessibility at University of Minnesota Physicians. He brings more than two decades of experience across healthcare, government, education, and nonprofit organizations. He is the author of Burnout and Belonging: The Hidden Costs of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, which explores the human cost of pursuing change and how we sustain ourselves in the work.

This virtual meeting is open to all physicians, health professionals, and leaders from Minnesota health systems, medical groups, and medical associations with an interest in health equity.
