More than 130 Allina Health hospital physicians represented by Doctors Council SEIU voted last week, by a 90% margin, to authorize a strike after nearly two years of bargaining.

The MMA and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) will present a virtual forum on “Challenging Cases and Updated Guidance for Syphilis, including Congenital Syphilis” from noon to 1 pm on Tuesday, October 1.
The forum will include case-based presentations that illustrate the complexities faced during diagnosis and treatment of syphilis and congenital syphilis. Additionally, rising rates of syphilis and congenital syphilis and new MDH recommendations for syphilis screening among non-pregnant people will also be presented.
The session will be moderated by Ruth Lynfield, MD, state epidemiologist, MDH. Panelists include: James (Jamie) Conniff, MD, MPH, family physician, Min No Aya Win Clinic, Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa; Alice Lehman, MD, CTropMed, adult and pediatrics infectious diseases fellow, University of Minnesota, LEAP Fellow 2023-2024; Elizabeth Dufort, MD, medical epidemiologist, Minnesota Department of Health; and Elizabeth Lees, DO, MPH, senior associate consultant, Mayo Clinic Division of Public Health, Infectious Diseases, and Occupational Medicine, Medical Consultant Olmsted County Public Health.
The forum objectives include:
Describe rising rates of syphilis and congenital syphilis nationally and in Minnesota.
Discuss challenging cases of syphilis and congenital syphilis.
Review updated syphilis screening recommendations for non-pregnant people in Minnesota.
