MMA Urges Congressional Delegation Support for Medicare Physician Payment Fix

February 20, 2025

MMA leaders attended the AMA National Advocacy Conference February 10-12 in Washington, DC, to advocate for action to address Medicare physician payment cuts.

On January 1, a 2.8% cut to the Medicare physician fee schedule took effect – the fifth consecutive year of payment cuts. When adjusting for medical practice cost inflation, Medicare physician payment has been reduced by 33% since 2001.

MMA leaders met with eight of Minnesota’s 10 Congressional delegation members (including Rep. Kelly Morrison, MD) and urged their support of H.R. 879, the Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act of 2025. This bill would eliminate the 2.8% cut that took effect January 1 and provide a 2% increase through the end of the year.
