MMA Speaks Out Against HHS Secretary Nominee

January 30, 2025

As the U.S. Senate deliberates Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s confirmation to be the next Health and Human Services secretary, the MMA has voiced its opposition to his candidacy.

The association has sent letters to Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith urging them to oppose the nomination. Both are expected to vote against Kennedy’s confirmation.

“For 172 years, the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA) has worked to improve the health of Minnesotans and to advance the science and art of medicine,” the MMA said in a media statement. “We expect our nation’s healthcare leadership to similarly ground their public health policy decisions in science and evidence. The proposed nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services has an extremely troubling track record of undermining and questioning invaluable public health interventions.”
