MMA Seeks Members for Rural Mental Health Project ECHO Advisory Committee

The MMA is seeking physicians and other healthcare professionals to serve on an advisory committee for a new Project ECHO program focused on mental and behavioral health in rural communities.  

This is a grant-funded initiative through the Minnesota Department of Health, Rural Health Transformation Program.  

Project ECHO is a virtual, case-based learning model that connects rural clinicians with specialists, subject-matter experts, and peers. Sessions combine educational presentations with case discussions, practical guidance, and shared problem-solving. The goal is to strengthen mental and behavioral health care in rural Minnesota by building the capacity of providers. 

Advisory committee members will help shape the program by: identifying priority topics and learning needs; providing feedback on curriculum and program design; recommending potential faculty and subject-matter experts; and sharing insight into the realities facing rural clinicians and communities. They will help ensure the program is practical, relevant, and responsive to rural provider needs.  Advisory committee members may also serve as faculty or subject matter experts for individual ECHO sessions when their expertise aligns with a selected topic. 

The MMA is seeking a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals with experience relevant to rural mental and behavioral healthcare. This may include physicians, advanced practice clinicians, behavioral health professionals, and other members of interdisciplinary care teams. Experience in rural health, mental and behavioral health, or related areas is preferred. 

Members will participate in periodic virtual meetings from October 2026 through September 2027. The expected time commitment is approximately two to four hours per month. Stipends will be provided for participants.
