MMA Member Announces Run for U.S. House of Representatives Seat

MMA member and State Sen. Matt Klein, MD, (DFL-Mendota Heights) announced on May 6 that he's running in 2026 for Minnesota's Second Congressional District, a seat being vacated by U.S. Rep Angie Craig, who is running for the U.S. Senate. 

Klein is a hospitalist at the Mayo Clinic. Klein was elected to the West St Paul school board in 2013, and to the state senate in 2016, where he represents the communities of West St Paul, South St Paul, Mendota Heights, and Inver Grove Heights.

“It’s great to see our members getting politically involved at both a state and Federal level,” said MMA President Edwin Bogonko, MD, MBA. “Physicians need to be at the table wherever decisions are being made about the practice of medicine.”  

Klein is the second physician and MMA member to run for Congress in recent years. Member and former State Sen. Kelly Morrison, MD, ran and was elected to serve Minnesota’s Third Congressional District in 2024.
