The MMA joined the AMA and 118 other healthcare advocacy groups in a letter of support sent to the sponsors of H.R. 2474, the “Strengthening Medicare for Patients and Providers Act,” which would adjust Medicare Fee Schedule payments annually for inflation.
“Providing an annual inflation update equal to the Medicare Economic Index (MEI) for Medicare physician payments is essential to enabling physician practices to better absorb payment distributions triggered by budget neutrality rules, performance adjustments, and periods of high inflation,” said the letter sent April 19. “It will also help physicians invest in their practices and implement new strategies to provide high-value care.”
“We are encouraged to see our elected officials working to fix our flawed, unjust, unsustainable Medicare payment system,” said MMA President Will Nicholson, MD. “This is long overdue.”
