MMA Foundation Invites Applications for Scholarship Programs

September 21, 2023

The MMA Foundation (MMAF) will accept applications through October 26 for its Friedman-Bowen Primary Care Scholarship Fund and Reuter-Lien Well-being & Health Equity Scholarship Fund grants. The MMAF’s Indihar Advocacy Scholarship Fund and MCAT® Fee Relief Fund grants are also open.

The MMAF awards Friedman-Bowen Primary Care Scholarship Fund grants each year to spark interest in primary care as a career. The grants also provide support for medical student-initiated and medical student-designed projects that show promise to improve the knowledge or practice of primary care or raise awareness of particular health issues. Medical students studying at a medical school in Minnesota who intend to pursue primary care, are eligible to apply. The MMAF expects to award approximately $10,000 in Friedman-Bowen grants in 2023.

The MMAF’s Reuter-Lien Well-being and Health Equity Fund grants offer opportunities for Minnesota medical students, residents, and fellows to pursue research or projects to create positive change for health equity and/or student/trainee/patient well-being. The MMAF expects to award $2,300 in Reuter-Lien grants in 2023.

Ongoing grant programs available throughout the year include the Indihar Advocacy Scholarship Fund grants that are intended to empower Minnesota medical students to be part of the next generation of advocacy leaders by supporting their work to drive meaningful policy and structural changes that produce equity and justice. The MMAF expects to award $3,000 in Indihar grants in 2023.

The MMAF also offers MCAT grants to help pay the MCAT® fees for undergraduates from racial and ethnic populations underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population.
