MMA Foundation Invites Applications for Physicians-in-Training Scholarships
September 29, 2022
The MMA Foundation (MMAF) is currently accepting applications for two scholarship funds geared to physicians-in-training.
MMAF will accept applications through October 27 for its Friedman-Bowen Primary Care Scholarship Fund grants, which are available to medical students enrolled at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine or the University of Minnesota School of Medicine – Duluth or Twin Cities campuses who intend to pursue a career in primary care.
Examples of eligible projects include practice projects such as those to facilitate access to primary medical care for vulnerable populations, improve vaccination rates for a particular population or vaccine, develop a system for increasing the number of screenings for certain conditions, improve clinical processes, raise awareness of health issues among health care providers or that impact special populations. Students may also propose activities, such as statistical help to facilitate project completion.
New this year, the MMAF has also created the Reuter-Lien Health Equity and Well-being Fund to offer opportunities for medical students, residents, and fellows to pursue research or projects to create positive change for health equity and/or student/trainee/patient well-being. The scholarship program was made possible through the generosity of Nick Reuter, MD, and past gifts from Richard Lien, MD.
Examples of eligible projects include research or projects to examine and address health disparities and/or promote health equity in a marginalized and minoritized community; focus on understanding and/or enhancing culturally competent care; normalize dialogues about well-being and help medical students, residents, and fellows translate this to their peers and communities; and build relationships and community as a strategy to help Minnesota’s medical students and physicians in training enhance their sense of belonging and capacity to manage stress.
