MMA and the Minnesota Society of Addiction Medicine Release 7-OH, Kratom Clinical Guidance

October 21, 2026

The MMA and the Minnesota Society of Addiction Medicine (MNSAM) are pleased to share a new clinical resource developed to support Minnesota clinicians caring for patients using concentrated 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) and related kratom-derived products. The package provides practical guidance for assessment and buprenorphine initiation across inpatient, outpatient, and at-home settings. It is designed to help clinicians navigate an emerging area of practice where product potency and labeling may be unreliable, and the published treatment evidence remains limited.

The resource is intended to support, not replace, clinical judgment, and can be used as a practical starting point when evaluating and treating patients with suspected 7-OH or kratom-related dependence.

The 7-OH, Kratom Clinical Guidance can be found here.
