The MMA will host a webinar on “Best Practices for Communicating about Health Equity” on May 15 at 7 pm.
“The words we use can either promote a culture of respect and inclusion or perpetuate harm toward marginalized individuals and communities,” says MMA President Laurel Ries, MD. “As we work to promote an anti-racist culture in medicine, we must also examine the way we speak about equity. As language and culture change over time, it is our responsibility to stay up to date on best practices for communicating about health equity.”
The webinar will enable participants to use more inclusive communication by providing suggested language, guidance, and explanatory context, and encouraging them to think critically about the words they use, the meaning conveyed, and the potential impact.
The webinar is being held in conjunction with the release of the MMA’s Inclusive Communication Guide.
