International Expert to Discuss Human Systems Dynamics in the Context of COVID-19 at Annual Conference

August 18, 2022

A lead thinker in the world of complexity science, and founder of the field of human systems dynamics, Glenda Eoyang, PhD, HSDP, will close out this year’s Annual Conference with her session on “Healing Healthcare: Adaptive Capacity for Doctors and Leaders.”

This year’s MMA Annual Conference will take place September 23 from 1 to 6 pm at the Union Depot in downtown St. Paul.

As founding executive director of the Human Systems Dynamics Institute (HSD), Eoyang leads a global network of scholar-practitioners who use her models and methods to see patterns in the chaos that surrounds them, understand the patterns in simple and powerful ways, and take practical steps to shift chaos toward coherence.

Her recent clients include the Finnish Research Institute (VTT), US Environmental Protection Agency and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, British Columbia Ministry of Health, Oxfam International, The International Baccalaureate Organization, The Sustainability Consortium, the Association for Medical Education in Europe, UK National Health Service, and Roffey Park Institute.

For the closing session, Eoyang will guide attendees on a journey through the complexities of human systems dynamics. She will share tools and techniques to help physicians see patterns in chaos, understand options and risks, and take action to thrive, even when answers cannot be found and problems cannot be solved.

After a brief introduction of the concept and practices, Eoyang will facilitate a panel discussion among healthcare system leaders from across Minnesota. Together they will explore:

  • WHAT was the most important lesson that emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic?

  • SO WHAT has changed permanently—for the better or for the worse—as a result of the pandemic?

  • NOW WHAT can we do to prepare for the next complex disruption to the systems of health and wellbeing in our profession and our communities?
