Bill to Stop Medicare Cuts Fails, Chance to Fix Delayed Until March

January 25, 2024

A bill that would have eliminated a 3.37% Medicare cut for physicians – a cut that took effect January 1—failed to meet a January 18 congressional budget deadline, Politico reports. According to one congressman who championed the bill, the next likeliest chance to fix the cut won’t be until March.

The MMA has fought and will continue to fight for appropriate Medicare payments for physicians. Just this past month, the MMA signed onto an AMA letter that urged Congress to pass the bill before the January deadline. As the AMA coordinates efforts to push for a fix in March, the MMA stands by ready to support.

The MMA will continue to inform its members on its efforts to fix the Medicare cut. If you have any questions, please contact Adrian Uphoff, MMA health policy analyst.
