June 22, 2023

The MMA will debut its new video series on racism in medicine with a virtual symposium featuring a panel discussion with several of the featured physicians in the videos. The free, online event is July 25 from 5:30 to 7 pm.

The video series, Racism in Medicine: Truths from Minnesota Physicians, includes a range of Minnesota physicians discussing the effects of racism, microaggressions, and implicit bias.

Participants in the project include Maria Camila Arciniegas Calle, MD; Nathan Chomilo, MD, FAAP, FACP; Aakash Desai, MD, MPH; David Hamlar, MD, DDS; Dionne Hart, MD; Adrina Kocharian, MD, PhD (student); Derrick Lewis, MD; Cybil Oragwu, MD; Mary Owen, MD; and Yeng Yang, MD, MBA, FAAP.

The project is part of the MMA’s broader work to promote an anti-racist culture of medicine in Minnesota. Efforts toward making medicine more inclusive require more inclusive narratives. With this work, the MMA aims to inspire understanding, compassion, and action.
