This year’s MMA Annual Conference, which will take place September 23 from 1 to 6 pm at the Union Depot in downtown St. Paul, will focus on: “The COVID-19 Pandemic: Learning from the past and looking to the future.”

The conference will begin with a general session “COVID-19 Debrief: A Public Health Perspective” from 1 to 2:15 pm. The general session will be followed by table discussions from 2:15 to 3 pm in which attendees will relay their experiences about the pandemic with their colleagues.

The closing, “Healing Healthcare: Adaptive Capacity for Doctors and Leaders,” will take place from 3:15 to 4:30 pm with keynote speaker Glenda Eoyang, PhD, HSDP, founding executive director of the Humans Systems Dynamics Institute. Eoyang will discuss the topic of change, complexity, and uncertainty – in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the chaos and change it has brought to our healthcare system.

Following Eoyang’s talk, there will be a panel of healthcare leaders, representing various health systems and clinics across Minnesota.  The panelists will 1) respond to what they hear from the keynote; 2) share how their clinics and health systems have been challenged during COVID-19; 3) share what their resilience and response has looked like during this chaotic time; and 4) share how they are positioning their clinics and health systems to be stronger and more effective moving forward.

The conference will wrap-up with a reception that will introduce the MMA’s new president, Will Nicholson, MD, and provide attendees an opportunity to network with peers.
