Several news sources are reporting that Allina Health and the Doctors Council SEIU reached a tentative agreement on September 22.
Dozens of Allina Health physicians at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids and its Unity campus in Fridley, went on strike September 14 through September 17. The hospitals remained open.
The physicians at Allina's Mercy and Unity hospitals have been seeking better wages, benefits, a greater voice in decision-making, including in the implementation of artificial intelligence, and for Allina to dissolve its noncompete agreements since they voted to unionize in 2023.
According to reports, the tentative agreement includes provisions recognizing physician responsibility and decision-making authority in clinical environments; establishes a formal grievance process to protect physicians when advocating for patient safety; addresses concerns regarding corporate and technological shifts around AI; secures a full release from non-compete clauses in the event of a layoff; and brings clarity to compensation models and adjustments.
The agreement still needs to be ratified by the members of the Doctors Council SEIU.
