September 28, 2021
Dominique Earland and J.P. Janowski, MD, were honored by the Minnesota Medical Association with its Medical Student Leadership, and Resident and Fellow Leadership awards, respectively, during the group’s 2021 virtual Annual Conference.
The awards recognize physicians-in-training who demonstrate exemplary leadership in service to medical students and residents/fellows, the profession of medicine and the broader community.
Earland is a third-year student at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Twin Cities campus. In 2020-2021, she served as the vice president of the University of Minnesota Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Twin Cities Chapter. SNMA is a national medical student organization. Its mission is to support current and future underrepresented minority medical students, to address the needs of underserved communities, and to increase the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and social conscious physicians.
Janowski recently completed a residency in psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic and is now in his residency in internal medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. He was elected by his peers to serve on the Board of the Mayo Clinic Fellows Association and then appointed as a liaison to the Zumbro Valley Medical Society’s (ZVMS) Executive Committee. For the past two years, he has also served in leadership positions on the MMA Resident and Fellow Section Governing Council (RFS) and served two terms as ZVMS RFS representative and as the 2020-21 MMA-RFS Governing Council Chairperson.
