This Fourth of July, Minnesota physicians are once again urging their fellow Minnesotans to leave the fireworks up to the professionals.

Marilyn Peitso, MD, was installed as the Minnesota Medical Association’s (MMA) 154th president on Sept. 24 during the group’s virtual Annual Conference. Her term, which officially begins Oct. 1, lasts one year.
Peitso is currently a pediatric hospitalist with CentraCare in St. Cloud. Since 1983, she has served in several positions with the MMA including her work on its awards committee, nominating committee, Annual Conference planning committee, and health equity advisory group. She’s also been president of the MMA Foundation board, a North Central Trustee on the MMA Board of Trustees, and member of the Policy Council as president-elect.
Outside of her involvement with the MMA, Peitso is a past president of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She received the 2011 Spirit of Women Health Care Hero award for her work with health care homes.

The state’s largest advocacy group for Minnesota physicians and physicians-in-training will advocate for five key legislative priorities at the Capitol this session, which begins February 17. The group will hold its annual Physicians’ Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, March 4, bringing together physicians and physicians-in-training from across the state to meet with their elected officials.
“Dozens of healthcare-related bills go through the Capitol each session,” said Lisa Mattson, MD, the Minnesota Medical Association’s (MMA) president. “But to make an impact for patients and medical practice in Minnesota, we really need to focus our efforts on a few top issues.”
