The MMA Announces New Initiative and Statewide Call-To-Action: Practice Good Health

May 28, 2020

The Minnesota Medical Association (MMA) is launching Practice Good Health, a unified effort of its 10,000 physician members to empower Minnesota families to proactively care for their physical and emotional well-being, especially during this uncertain time. Practice Good Health brings together credible tools, resources and best practice guidelines to make care decisions easier amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

“As medical offices and clinics re-open, alongside more public spaces on June 1, and Minnesotans learn to navigate and adapt to the current realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to encourage preventive health practices and promote safe care has never been greater,” said MMA President Keith Stelter, MD. “Practice Good Health is designed to make it easier for Minnesotans to navigate care decisions to stay healthy and well.”

In addition to providing patient clarity, Practice Good Health will also directly support physicians across the state to create the safest possible care environments and experiences. This includes physician resources and educational opportunities for their clinics and practices as well as their own well-being.

Practice Good Health will support its physician members and Minnesotans in three important ways:
1.    COVID-19 Care: Best practices to slow the spread of COVID-19 and knowing when to get tested or seek care
2.    Seeking Safe Care: Guidance for seeking ongoing and preventive health care or emergency care
3.    Physician Care: Resources to support physician health and well-being, along with resources to support safe care environments and ongoing education

“Health care is deeply personal, and we know Minnesotans trust their physicians to help them make good care decisions,” said Stelter. “Recently, confusion and fear have prevented people from seeking the regular care needed to stay healthy. We encourage them to work closely with their physicians to proactively Practice Good Health, and to share their experiences and tips with their friends and family.”

Practice Good Health is a direct extension of the MMA’s mission to make Minnesota the healthiest state in which to live and practice medicine. The MMA has been the leading voice of medicine in Minnesota for 167 years and is committed to using that platform to help families feel confident and supported to Practice Good Health today, tomorrow and into the future.

The state’s largest advocacy group for Minnesota physicians and physicians-in-training will advocate for five key legislative priorities at the Capitol this session, which begins February 17. The group will hold its annual Physicians’ Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, March 4, bringing together physicians and physicians-in-training from across the state to meet with their elected officials.

“Dozens of healthcare-related bills go through the Capitol each session,” said Lisa Mattson, MD, the Minnesota Medical Association’s (MMA) president. “But to make an impact for patients and medical practice in Minnesota, we really need to focus our efforts on a few top issues.”

MMA statement on CDC’s revision to childhood vaccine schedule

January 5, 2026

The Minnesota Medical Association (MMA) is deeply concerned with the recent decision by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to revise the childhood vaccine schedule. The changes add unnecessary confusion and uncertainty around vaccines that have been shown to be both safe and effective. Minnesota law continues to require evidence-based vaccinations for childcare and school attendance. The MMA urges parents and families to talk directly with their physicians about the critical role that childhood vaccines play in preventing serious disease and death, and in protecting the most vulnerable members or our communities.
