Why Join MEDPAC?
MEDPAC is an integral part of the MMA’s advocacy efforts, as it enables and enhances organized medicine to directly impact the political atmosphere at the Capitol. To influence the debate in St. Paul, physicians must be engaged even earlier – on the campaign trail. MEDPAC works to elect candidates who support our policy positions.
Many physicians make political contributions directly to candidates, and that’s terrific. But by pooling resources with other doctors and medical students, MEDPAC makes a specific and powerful statement to candidates and the public – “Organized medicine is engaged on the campaign trail and at the Capitol.”
Contributors to MEDPAC will also receive regular updates from the MMA’s lobbyists during the legislative session. These exclusive “behind the scenes” updates offer a special glimpse into action at the Capitol.
How Does MEDPAC Make Decisions?
MEDPAC is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of physicians, residents, and medical students from around the state and from across the political spectrum, and physicians from all types of practices. Contributions and endorsements are based on a candidates’ position on issues identified by the MMA as critical to physicians and patients.
Where does MEDPAC's funding come from?
MEDPAC receives no money from the MMA or from MMA member dues, and is wholly supported by voluntary contributions from individuals. Contributions from corporations or incorporated practices cannot be accepted for MEDPAC's political contribution fund.
