March 23 Forum to Examine Firearm Death and Injury Prevention

Firearm death and injury prevention will be the topic of the MMA’s next noon-time forum on March 23 from noon to 1 p.m.  

The forum, which is being held in partnership with the Public Health Advocacy Student Alliance at the University of Minnesota, will include the following experts: 

  • Andrew Kiragu, MD, FAAP, FCCM, associate chief of critical care-elect, Children's Minnesota; pediatric intensivist, Children's Respiratory and Critical Care Specialists 

  • Thomas Kottke, MD, MSPH, medical director for wellbeing, HealthPartners, professor of medicine, University of Minnesota 

  • Dave Renner, CAE, director of advocacy, MMA 

  • Kim Tjaden MD, MPH, FAAFP, department of family medicine, community health medical director, department of population health 

The learning objectives for this forum include: 

  • Examining firearm death and injury through a public health lens. 

  • Learning evidence-based strategies to reduce morbidity and mortality. 

  • Exploring the fatal connection between firearms and suicide.
