Two More Minnesota Cities Institute Mask Mandates

Minnesota cities continue to debate instituting mask mandates to help slow the spread of the Omicron variant. Recently, the cities of Minnetonka and Rochester joined Duluth, Golden Valley, Hopkins, Minneapolis and St. Paul with temporary mandates.  

On Jan. 6, the MMA distributed a statement to media across the state supporting Minneapolis and St. Paul's decision to re-institute mask mandates. 

CentraCare physicians have petitioned St. Cloud and surrounding communities to put mandates into place, but have so far been unsuccessful.

Firearm Safety Bills Pass House Floor, Pending Action in Senate

On April 29, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed legislation that would require a person whose firearm is lost or stolen to report it to law enforcement within 48 hours of the loss or theft. Not doing so the first time would result in a petty misdemeanor, with greater penalties for future failures.

Senate Committee Hears Public Option Legislation

The Senate Commerce and Consumer Protection Committee heard legislation on April 30 allowing more Minnesotans to purchase health coverage through MinnesotaCare, by offering a “public option.”
