Study Shows Physician Burnout Not Increasing in Years Leading up to Pandemic
March 3, 2022
According to a new study, burnout and satisfaction with work-life balance among U.S. physicians improved between 2017 and 2020.
The study by Mayo Clinic, AMA and Stanford University evaluates the pervasiveness of burnout and satisfaction among physicians and U.S. workers in 2020 compared to 2011, 2014 and 2017. It was published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
The study also showed that physicians in specialties most impacted by COVID-19 did not experience any significant changes in burnout. However, physicians remain at an increased risk for burnout compared to workers in other fields.
Mayo, AMA and Stanford are putting together a follow-up survey to look at burnout and satisfaction during the pandemic.
