The MMA and Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatricians (MNAAP) are partnering to present a noon-time forum on Oct. 21 that will feature a presentation and practical strategies to help teens thrive during a public health crisis.
The event, titled “Mental Health Implications of COVID-19 on Youth,” will include the following panelists: Nimi Singh, MA, MD, MPH; Josh Stein, MD and Janna Gerwitz O’Brien, MD.
Objectives for this forum include:
1. Identify key history components of the clinic visit specifically relevant to an adolescent who may be presenting with either a clinical or subclinical mood disorder.
2. Identify easily implemented tools in the clinical setting to determine extent of anxiety or depression, and initiate appropriate interventions given severity of symptoms.
3. Understand the primary care interventions that contribute to the overall treatment plan for the patient, namely, addressing lifestyle contributors.
4. Discuss how different health care systems, including primary care practices, mental health care organizations, and school-based health, have evolved to address the mental health needs of adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Registration for MMA and MNAAP members is complimentary, and can be done here
