Local and National Experts to Lead Sessions at our Virtual Annual Conference

As the MMA’s Virtual Annual Conference draws near, we continue to add experts to our list of faculty for the event taking place Sept. 25 and 26. 

Infectious disease expert Michael T. Osterholm, PhD, MPH, Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm, and front-line physician Jon B. Cole, MD, will discuss the shifting epidemiology of COVID-19; the state, federal and world response to the pandemic; what the greatest challenges have been in the fight against it; and what we need to improve upon to ensure that we are better equipped to handle the next public health emergency. This session will be held Friday, Sept. 25, from noon to 1 p.m.

Matthew Anderson, Assistant Commissioner Health Care and Minnesota’s Medicaid Director, Minnesota Department of Human Services; Joseph Bianco, MD, FAAFP, Ambulatory Quality Leader, Essentia Health; Scott R. Ketover, MD, AGAF, FAS, president & CEO, MNGI; and Penny Wheeler, MD, president and CEO of Allina Health, will take part in a panel discussion on current payment models and health care access during the COVID-19 pandemic from 1:30 to 2:30 on Friday, Sept. 25.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, Brooke A. Cunningham, MD, PhD and David S. Jones, MD, PhD, will discuss “Addressing the Challenges of Viewing Medicine Through a Race-Based Lens” from 9 to 10 a.m. Jones recently co-authored "Hidden in Plain Sight — Reconsidering the Use of Race Correction in Clinical Algorithms" in The New England Journal of Medicine.

This session will be followed by “The Case for Equity in Healthcare” from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. featuring health equity experts Uché Blackstock, MD, Esther Choo, MD, MPH, and Jane van Dis, MD.
