To continue the conversation on how Minnesota’s health care community can work together to achieve health equity in the state, the MMA will host an in-person event on LGBTQ health on May 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Campus Club on the University of Minnesota’s Minneapolis campus.
The goals of the forum are to: raise awareness of the unique health needs of the LGBTQ community; raise awareness of the health disparities faced by the LGBTQ community, and the root causes of those disparities; and identify strategies for creating a welcoming, supportive and quality clinical environment for the LGBTQ community.
The event will include a keynote address; a panel dialog on best practices for working with transgender youth and their families; and conclude with four table discussions on the following topics:
• Effect of implicit bias and structural racism on the LGBTQ community.
• Role of collecting sexual orientation/gender identity (SO/GI) data to assist in identifying health disparities.
• Mental health and the LGBTQ community.
• Working with LGBTQ youth and their families.
