Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm told the MMA Board of Trustees during its May 16 meeting that “vigilance is the watch word for all of us” as the health care community continues to battle COVID-19.
She noted that the day before the board meeting she drove by a popular park and saw large crowds with many people too close to each other. “People are not getting the message,” she said. She encouraged the MMA to continue promoting social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands and staying home.
Board members asked Malcolm to promote more routine testing for physicians and other health care workers on the front lines.
Malcolm told the group that while Minnesota’s numbers are increasing it could be directly tied to the fact there’s more testing going on especially at meat processing plants and in congregate living facilities.
