Twin Cities Medical Society: Shadow a Physician Program

The Twin Cities Medical Society (TCMS) serves as the local voice of medicine and represents 4,000 physicians living and/or practicing in the 7-county Twin Cities metropolitan area. The mission of the Twin Cities Medical Society is to connect, represent and engage physicians in improving clinical practice, policy development and public health initiatives.

Shadow A Physician Program:

The Shadow a Physician Program connects first and second year medical students with practicing physicians to explore various specialties of medicine and surgery by observing physicians for one-half day in clinic and/or surgical environments. Only medical students currently enrolled at the University of Minnesota Medical School and who are members of the Twin Cities Medical Society are eligible to participate in this program.

The Shadow a Physician Program engages physicians in all specialties. If you are a physician who is willing and available to mentor a medical student, please complete the online interest form and TCMS staff will match you with a medical student.

Time commitment:

Though no specific time commitment is required, a minimum of one-half day is recommended to allow for students to get an exposure to and understanding of the particular specialty and get a sense of the day-to-day activities.

Requirements: All volunteering physicians must be licensed to practice in the state of Minnesota.

Complete the appropriate application above and submit it to the Twin Cities Medical Society as noted on the form.
