Write a vision and mission statement and refer to this statement throughout the EHR adoption process. Ask your staff how they hope to practice medicine in the next five years and how an EHR could impact patient care, the practice’s financial future, and your staff and clinician’s needs. Ask staff how an EHR could lead to improved quality scores, reduced errors, eliminating inefficient processes, better coding, charging and accounts receivable processes, better patient experience, and sustainable staffing. Take into account the needs and expectations of other stakeholders such as patients, other health care providers in your community, and payers.
