Dennis Kelly, CEO of the MMA Foundation (MMAF), participated in a panel discussion on Oct. 14 regarding the practice of medicine in rural Minnesota communities and the Rural Physician Associate Program with first-year medical students at the University of Minnesota – Duluth.
Other panelists included: Gus Mellgren, M.D., who practices family medicine in Glenwood; Jessica Simmons, M.D., a second-year resident from Roseau, now studying at the Duluth Family Medicine Program; Anna Glowicki, a third-year medical student from Virginia; and Roger MacDonald, M.D., whose 40 years of practice as a country doctor in Little Fork and Grand Marais are remembered in his book, A Country Doctor’s Casebook
The panel was moderated by Ruth Westra, D.O., head of Family Medicine at the Duluth Campus, and Professor James Bolger.
At the request of the medical school, the MMAF provides each first-year student a copy of MacDonald’s A Country Doctor’s Casebook.
