The West Metro Medical Foundation of the Twin Cities Medical Society awarded Stephen C. Battista, M.D., an internist, cardiologist and cardiac interventionist with Fairview Southdale Hospital, with its Charles Bolles Bolles-Rogers Award on Oct. 11.
The award is given to a physician who excels in medical research, achievement or leadership. Battista is described as a compassionate, caring physician with a passion for service to the community. Through his vision, leadership and commitment to improving quality patient care, Battista developed and implemented a CMS Demonstration Project to improve myocardial infarction care within the hospital. As a result, Fairview Southdale Hospital was in the top 10 percent of hospitals all five years of the CMS Demonstration Project and in 2010, was recognized as the top hospital nationwide for cardiac arrest survival.
