Effective Sept. 9, National Government Services (NGS) will assume responsibility for all Medicare Part B claims and benefit administration as the new Jurisdiction 6 (J6) Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC). The J6 area includes Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin and incorporates both Part B and Part A services and providers. Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) is Minnesota’s current Part B carrier.
Physician practices should pay particular attention to the NGS changes associated with electronic data interchange (EDI) as well as changes to Medicare coverage policy outlined in local coverage determinations (LCDs).
For claims with dates of services through Sept. 6, 2013, the WPS LCDs will be used to determine coverage policy. Effective for dates of services on or after Sept. 7, 2013, the new NGS LCDs will be applied.
Details on the WPS to NGS transition can be found on the NGS website
