[MMA News Now, March 14, 2013] The MMA and the MMA Foundation presented Therese Zink, M.D., with its Physician Leadership in Quality Award on March 8. The award is given out each year to a Minnesota physician whose outstanding work advances quality health care and helps build a strong culture of quality improvement in Minnesota. Zink practices family medicine and is a professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School, in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.
She received the award for her leadership of a practice-based study on the effective management of chronic kidney disease in primary care settings
The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians nominated Zink, noting in its application that “she has been a leader in family medicine research and quality improvement for decades, including chairing the MAFP’s own Research and Quality Improvement Committee for the past three years.” “As an active leader in academic and professional medical circles, Dr. Zink is using her expertise and the study results to advance the quality of care of kidney disease patients throughout Minnesota and the rest of the country,” said MMA Board member Benjamin Chaska, M.D., who presented Zink with the award.
