Survey Says Physician Pay Dropped Sharply in 2012
Date: 14-02-2013 [MMA News Now, Feb. 14, 2013] A recent survey by Physicians Practice, a business publication for physicians, found that physician pay dropped by as much as 33 percent for existing patient visits in 2012. Meanwhile, pay for new patient visits increased slightly.
The study concluded that “payers continued to reduce costs by cutting pay for services and began experimenting with ‘value-based’ pay models.”
Pay rates to physicians have declined or remained flat nearly every year since the publication began its annual survey in 2001. Physicians Practice surveys physicians on the average pay they receive for common medical codes from all of their payers.
