On Jan. 25, the MMA Foundation presented its Minority Affairs Meritorious Service Award to Charles Crutchfield III, M.D.

Dionne Hart, M.D., 2012 chair of the MMA Minority and Cross-Cultural Affairs Committee, presented the award at a meeting of the Minnesota Association of Black Physicians in Minneapolis.

Crutchfield, a dermatologist based in Eagan, was recognized for his ongoing commitment to students. He has encouraged and supported pre-med students, supported their attendance at conferences and provided shadowing opportunities for hundreds of pre-med and medical students throughout his career.

In nominating Crutchfield for this award, Jo Peterson, Ph.D., executive director of Minnesota’s Future Doctors, said: “Dr. Crutchfield’s work with our Black/African American students, among others, has been life-changing for them.”

In addition to maintaining his busy dermatology practice, Crutchfield is on the faculty of the University of Minnesota Medical School and teaches a course in biology at Carlton College.
