NGS to Remain Medicare Vendor for Minnesota

Date: 24-01-2013
[MMA News Now, Jan. 24, 2013] The protests that were filed by two vendors have been dismissed by the Government Accountability Office, it was announced Jan. 16. As a result, National Government Services (NGS) will retain its award of the Jurisdiction 6 (J6) A/B Medicare Administrative Contract (MAC) by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Under this contract, NGS will process Medicare claims and provide benefit administration related services for all Part A and Part B providers in the states of Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Details about the timeline and transition to NGS have yet to be announced.

The contract includes a base year and four one-year option periods. The total value of the contract, including all option periods, is estimated at $318 million. If all options are exercised, CMS estimates that the J6 A/B MAC will process and pay more than 477 million Medicare claims over the five-year period.

Noridian Administrative Services and Wisconsin Physicians Service, Minnesota’s current Medicare fiscal intermediary and Part B carrier, had protested the contract awarded to NGS last fall.
