Component Societies Hold Annual Meetings

[MMA News Now, Jan. 17, 2013] Two of the MMA’s larger component medical societies - Zumbro Valley Medical Society (ZVMS) and the Twin Cities Medical Society (TCMS) – recently held their annual meetings.

As part of the ZCMS event, held on Jan. 10 in Rochester, the following awards were given: Presidential Award to Juan Bowen, M.D.; the E. Drewrey Henderson Leadership Award to Edward Rosenow III, M.D.; the Outstanding Alliance Member Award to Kristine Swanson; the Outstanding Young Leader Award to Kirk Wyatt; the Community Service Award to Walter Franz III, M.D. and a Special Service to ZVMS Award to Fred Nobrega, M.D., ZVMS executive director. 

Bowen continues as president for a second year.

In addition, Ronald Peterson, M.D., presented his work on Alzheimer’s to the 90 guests in attendance.

At the TCMS event, held Jan. 15 in St. Paul, the following awards were handed out: the First a Physician Award to James Jordan, M.D. and the MMA Foundation’s Physician Communicator Award to Marvin Segal, M.D.

Edwin Bogonko, M.D., assumed the group’s presidency while outgoing president, Peter Dehnel, M.D. was recognized for his work.

Lucinda Jesson, the Minnesota commissioner of Human Services, discussed “Developing Minnesota’s Public Health Programs” with the 80 people in attendance.

MMA President Dan Maddox, M.D. as well as representatives from the MMA staff and Foundation attended both events.
