Program on Translating Set for Oct. 19 in Duluth

[MMA News Now, Oct. 11, 2012] Medical students will be able to learn about working with non-English speaking patients at a Lunch & Learn session from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the UMD Medical School in the First Year Classroom in Duluth.

The MMA, in partnership with the Minnesota Academy of Family Physician Foundation, will present “Enhancing Your Communication with Patients with Limited English Proficiency” with presenter Alejandro Maldonado, who is a professionally trained interpreter with more than 15 years of experience.

   
Lunch & Learn programs provide medical students with access to experts on a variety of medical topics, including communication techniques and tips to help deliver quality health care to patients with limited English proficiency.

Two additional Lunch & Learn have been scheduled for later this month:

Oct. 29 – “Exploring Non-Traditional Medical Careers” from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Room 2-650 of Moos Tower on the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis campus. Sponsored by the MMA and the Twin Cities Medical Society.

Oct. 30 – “Hot Button Medical Issues in the 2012 Election” from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Room 2-530 of Moos Tower on the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis campus. Sponsored by the MMA.
