MMA Inaugurates New Group of Officers

 | Former MMA president David Luehr, M.D., (left) congratulates incoming President Daniel Maddox, M.D. | [MMA News Now, Sept. 20, 2012] During this past Saturday’s meeting, the MMA House of Delegates elected MMA’s 2012-2013 leadership.
They include: Daniel Maddox, M.D., an allergist at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, as president; Cindy Firkins Smith, M.D., a dermatologist at Affiliated Community Medical Centers, Willmar, as president-elect; Paul Sanford, M.D., an internal medicine physician at St. Luke's Internal Medicine Associates, Duluth, as secretary-treasurer; Robert Moravec, M.D., a family and emergency medicine physician at St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Paul, as speaker of the House; and Mark Liebow, M.D., an internal medicine physician at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, as vice speaker.
In addition, the House elected its AMA delegates and alternate delegates: re-electing Ken Crabb, M.D., an OB/GYN physician at Advanced Specialty Care for Women, St. Paul, and electing Benjamin Whitten, M.D., an internal medicine physician at Abbott Northwestern General Medicine Associates, Edina as delegates, and re-electing Will Nicholson, M.D., a family physician at St. John’s Hospital, Maplewood, and electing David Luehr, M.D. a family physician at Raiter Clinic, Cloquet, as AMA alternative delegates.
The make-up of the Board of Trustees also went through a transition. The following physicians were elected to the MMA Board of Trustees: Juan Bowen, M.D., Rochester, (Southeast District) and Randy Rice, M.D., Moose Lake, (Northeast District). Re-elected to the Board: Benjamin Chaska, M.D., Eden Prairie, (Twin Cities District), V. Stuart Cox III, M.D., St. Paul, (Twin Cities District), Roger Kathol, M.D., Burnsville, (Twin Cities District), David Thorson, M.D., Mahtomedi, (Twin Cities District) and Keith Stelter, M.D., St. Peter, (Southwest District).
Departing board members include: Gabriel Sciallis, M.D. (Southeast District); Patrick Zook, M.D. (North Central District); Maya Babu, M.D. (Resident and Fellow Section); Kevin Best, M.D. (Young Physicians’ Section); and Rahul Suresh (Medical Student Section). Babu, Best and Suresh can be reappointed by their respective sections.
