Nominees Sought Again for Second Congressional District BMP Position

[MMA News Now, July 3, 2012] In early May, the Secretary of State announced a physician opening on the Board of Medical Practice for physicians who reside in the Second Congressional District. Due to low application responses, the governor’s office has asked the MMA to help publicize this vacancy.
Application materials for this position are due to the Secretary of State’s office by July 31. Application forms may be found via three venues: online (go to the May 2012 Secretary of State’s Open Appointments Press Release), by writing the Office of the Secretary of State, Open Appointments, 180 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55155-1299, or in person at Room 180 of the State Office Building.
The MMA has statutory authority to submit endorsement recommendations to the governor for consideration when making physician appointments to the BMP. Physicians who are interested in applying for MMA endorsement (and are already MMA members) can email a copy of their board application materials, a statement of interest and a copy of their CV to Karolyn Stirewalt, J.D., MMA policy counsel, by Aug. 2. Physicians considering the position should be prepared to work one business day and one Saturday per month, plus preparation time. The compensation is $55 per day, plus expenses.
The second congressional district covers the south Twin Cities metro area and contains all of Carver, Scott, Le Sueur, Goodhue and Rice counties. It also contains most of Dakota County and south Washington County. To see if you live in the district click here.
