Minnesota to Submit Two Resolutions at AMA HOD

Minnesota delegates will submit two resolutions regarding younger physicians at the AMA House of Delegates held in Chicago on June 16-20.

National Speaker Headlines Annual Meeting

An action-packed 2012 MMA Annual Meeting will feature several exciting new activities for this year’s participants including a national expert on physician relationships, the rock band HC/MC and a new schedule that will make it easier for physicians to attend.

MinnesotaCare Changes Start Next Month

July 1 marks the beginning of the Healthy Minnesota Contribution Program for adults without children with incomes of 200 to 250 percent of the federal poverty level (about $22,350 to $30,000/year for an individual). The legislature approved this program, which replaces MinnesotaCare for these adults, in 2011.

Enforcement of Version 5010 Transactions Begins July 1

Beginning next month, Medicare will begin enforcing use of version 5010 of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act electronic data interchange transactions.

MDH Requests Feedback on Immunization Law Through June 30

The Minnesota Department of Health is considering modifications to the School and Child Care Immunization Law and is now accepting comments. Possible changes to the law have already been posted online but interested people or groups can still submit comments or information in writing or orally until 4:30 p.m. on June 30.

St. Croix Valley Physician to Host Health Care Forum

When a call went out encouraging physicians to attend health care community conversations this summer, MMA member Nicholas Meyer, M.D. of St. Croix Orthopaedics stepped up and offered to host a forum at his Oak Park Heights office on June 18.

What Unites Physicians in an Age of Specialization?

After medical students earn their M.D., their paths start to diverge. They specialize. Some work in clinics, others in hospitals. Some provide primary care, while others treat specific problems in certain populations. Still others go into research or administration. Clearly, there is much that potentially divides physicians. Minnesota Medicine wants to know if there’s common ground in medicine. What is it that still connects you with your fellow physicians regardless of specialty or position? Please take a few minutes to complete our survey.

Call for MAPS Poster Designs

Do you or your practice have a patient safety improvement story to tell? Consider sharing your successes in poster format with more than 400 health care stakeholders at the 2012 Minnesota Alliance for Patient Safety conference on Oct. 25-26. Poster designs should show how you are: changing processes to make care safer; engaging patients and their families; or disseminating innovation. For more information on rules and eligibility go online. Poster designs are due Aug. 1 to Nadine Simonson. Winners will be notified by Sept. 15.

Public Forum on Statewide Quality Reporting June 27

Here’s a great opportunity to weigh in on quality measurement in Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and MN Community Measurement (MNCM) will hold a public forum on June 27 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Mississippi Room at Snelling Office Park, 1645 Energy Park Drive, St. Paul. The forum will include a presentation on the MNCM’s final quality measure recommendations in connection with the annual update of the Statewide Quality Reporting and Measurement System. These final recommendations will be available at Health Care Quality Measures – Recommendations by June 15.
