[MMA News Now, November 2, 2010] The Minnesota Board of Medical Practice is looking to fill two board-member vacancies. The open positions are for an M.D. and a doctor of osteopathy, at least one of whom must be from the second congressional district.

Board members serve four-year terms and are appointed by the governor. Physicians may serve up to two consecutive terms. Members of the board commit one business day and one Saturday per month, plus preparation time, and are compensated $55 per day and reimbursed for expenses. The new terms begin January 1, 2011.

Interested physicians can either apply on the Minnesota Secretary of State website or obtain a paper application form from the Office of the Secretary of State, Open Appointments, located at 180 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55155-1299. The application deadline is November 23, 2010.

MMA members who wish to apply for these positions are also encouraged to contact the MMA for endorsement consideration. According to Minnesota Statute 147.01 Subd. 2, the governor may appoint members to the board from the list of persons recommended to him by the MMA, as well as from among other qualified candidates.
