Top Stories | July 16, 2009 National health care reform plans could undercut Minnesota’s statewide efforts, if Congress expands Medicare’s current payment methods, according to a meeting of local health care leaders including MMA President Noel Peterson, M.D. The MMA is seeking physicians interested in serving on a health care reform workgroup charged with the development of an essential benefit set. The AMA Board of Trustees voted Wednesday to support H.R. 3200, the reform bill released by the House of Representatives this week, according to an AMA representative. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) have published a proposed rule establishing the criteria and standards providers must meet in order to become certified as a health care home. President Barack Obama announced Monday that he has chosen Regina Benjamin, M.D., a family physician from Alabama to serve as U.S. surgeon general. The MMA Board of Trustees unanimously elected David Thorson, M.D., as its new chair Saturday. Thorson will assume his new position at the MMA’s Annual Meeting September 16-18 in Rochester.
